The pair have been involved in the competition from its inception, working closely with Michael McGuire, Lecturer and BIM Lead at New College Lanarkshire and Steve Taylor, Partner Development Executive at KnowledgePoint, to create the competition content. They also acted as judges at the inaugural competition at WorldSkills UK LIVE in November 2018. The success of this event meant that the BIM competition has become an official fixture in the 2019 series.
The series saw the best architectural and engineering students in the UK with a particular interest in BIM battle it out across three Regional Heats for a place at the National Championships, which will be held in Birmingham in November. Competitors are tested on their ability to produce, coordinate and quality check multiple 3D Project Information Models in a Common Data Environment, including configuring and inputting clarification and asset information. They are also judged on their ability to demonstrate a full understanding of and ability to use the ISO 19650-1 and 19560-2 BIM standards in a range of situations.
The regional heats took place throughout June, with competitions at Salford University (3rd June), New College Lanarkshire (5th June) and London Southbank University (18-19th June) in association with Autodesk and KnowledgePoint. The judges are now in the process of deliberating the results and the best students will go through to the National Championships. The top three students will then go onto the British squad where they will receive further training and from these one will get the opportunity to represent Great Britain at WorldSkills 2021 in Shanghai.

The duo were also on hand on the second day of the London Southbank University event, which formed part of the Autodesk University event, to answer any questions and discuss how BakerHicks are using VR/AR on projects.
